Dr. Ryan performs energy audits and analysis for commercial and industrial facilities, cogeneration evaluations, and other services to the energy industry. He is a registered professional engineer, and has considerable experience in the field of absorption and desiccant cooling systems.

Previously he had served as Program Team Leader, Commercial Space Conditioning at GRI (1986 - 2000). He was responsible for $7 million/year product development, deployment, and marketing program with manufacturers nationwide on absorption, engine, desiccant gas cooling and heat pumping equipment.

He has extensive experience in technical communications, economic analysis, presentations, and liaison tasks with gas utilities and HVAC manufacturers. He has established cooperatively funded product development projects with Trane, York, Carrier, Alcoa, Kathabar, Electrolux, Bard, Amana, State Industries, Lennox, Southern California Gas, Columbia Gas, Brooklyn Union Gas, Consolidated Edison, the New York Gas Group, Atlanta Gas, and Lone Star Gas. Before that he had served as Project Engineer at Lockwood-Greene, Inc. (1985 - 1986). He was responsible for HVAC designs for specialty applications including electronics clean rooms, chemical processing facilities, general production areas and office spaces. He has performed HVAC Design for the Toyota Office Facility, Michigan, Piping and Ventilation Layout, Sandoz Facility Renovation - Cherry Hill, North Carolina, HVAC Renovation, ITT Production Facility - Roanoke Virginia. He had also served as Assistant Project Engineer at Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (1981 - 1985). He was responsible for energy auditing and computer simulation, HVAC design for hospitals and institutional buildings, central HVAC and solid fuel cogeneration facilities.

His major projects were Wisconsin Capital Cogeneration Renovation, SHANDS Hospital chiller plant renovation, Energy Audits for Blackhawk Technical School, University of Wisconsin - Green Bay Power Plant, International Paper - Tallman Plant, Wisconsin State Capital, and the University of Wisconsin - Madison Chilled Water Distribution System Expansion.
