Visiting Research Engineer
Steve Wallon is a building energy professional and technological hobbyist with a passion for sustainable practices which improve the built environment and the lives within it.
In February of 2013, Steve joined the ERC producing energy assessments in collaboration with the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC). Prior to that, Steve worked directly for SEDAC's team of experienced architects and engineers where he provided technical advice to public/private sector clients on topics of environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and renewables. Activities include stakeholder and design team coordination, design review, technical research, feasibility evaluation, cost estimation, building and HVAC system inspections, and retro-commissioning.
Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and a Master of Architecture, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His graduate thesis work investigated energy efficiency environmental, social and economic sustainability, and also design-behavior principles; his thesis won the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2nd place Chicago Prize and the Ecological Design Consortium's (EDC) 1st place Green Rescheme competition.
Steve has successfully passed the Certified Energy Manager® (CEM) professional exam sponsored by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), and is also accredited as a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Green Associate.
