Michael J. Chimack

Mr. Chimack is the Principal Engineer who manages the Engineering Solutions Group at the Energy Resources Center. The group is comprised of research engineers, architects and graduate student research assistants who are interested in applied energy management with respect to the commercial, industrial, institutional and residential markets. The group’s projects range in scope from one-week design reviews to year-long, extensive energy conservation projects encompassing several million square feet of usable space.

Mr. Chimack is also the Assistant Director of the United States Department of Energy Industrial Assessment Center, which resides at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The IAC consists of staff and graduate and undergraduate students from all disciplines of the college of engineering. The student teams, together with faculty and staff conduct 25 one-day assessments of small to medium-sized manufacturing plants per year.

In addition to the project work, Mr. Chimack continues to explore collaborative energy-related projects with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA), the City of Chicago Department of the Environment, ComEd, NICOR, People’s Energy and the Chicago Manufacturing Center. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Illinois.
