Benefits of Residential Energy Efficiency
Programs in Illinois
Sponsored by the Illinois Department of Commerce
and Community Affairs (DCCA), and in partnership with GTI and Global
Energy Partners, this project identified and prioritized energy
efficiency programs that can reduce energy use of ratepayers in
Illinois, with an emphasis on lower-income households – information
that has been critical for energy efficiency program planning within
DCCA.
The research identifies that there is significant
potential for new energy efficiency programs to complement existing
programs within DCCA that can yield annual energy savings up to
600 million kilowatt-hours – a 1.4% reduction in state residential
energy consumption. Such peak demand reductions could forestall
the need for construction of a medium-sized power generation facility.
