Projects

Industrial CHP, City of Chicago
The Chicago Industrial Energy Plan Project creates
a government and industry cooperative to identify strategic industrial
locations that will maximize the benefit of integrated Industrial
Distributed Generation Systems. To achieve this goal, such locations
will need to lower overall stationary emissions while improving
energy security, reliability, efficiency and cost.
Overall direction of the project is guided by
a Steering Committee, consisting of industry leaders including GTI,
ERC, City of Chicago DOE, Chicago Area Energy Users Group, local
electric and gas utilities, city and state officials, engineering
companies, equipment manufacturers, and energy project developers.
The project consists of two phases. Phase I is
an energy and environmental characetrization study to identify and
prioritize target sites based on emissions, energy usage, and grid
utilization maps. Phase II is the devlopment of conceptual design
and deployment plans for process improvements and distributed generation
at each of the sites. Phase II concludes with a final report documenting
the results of the project that can serve as a model for other metropolitan
areas.
As a subcontractor on this project, the ERC provides
input on the Project Steering Committee, plant evaluations/audits,
industrial process integration, deployment strategy, and the final
reports.
