The ERC provides technical assistance at no cost to public sector clients in conjunction with the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC). Through advice and analyses SEDAC helps non-residential buildings increase energy efficiency and decrease operating costs. The technical services are free for qualifying public sector clients looking to improve efficiency through building components and systems. Typical clients include: schools, offices, community colleges, park districts, city halls, hotels, high-rise buildings, and manufacturing facilities.
The Assessment Process
Potential clients can learn more about qualifications for the assessment and apply online directly through SEDAC. Once the assessment process has started the client needs to provide us with a minimum of one year's worth of electricity and natural gas bills. The SEDAC/ERC team will conduct an on-site assessment to understand current operations and equipment. Upon completion of the site assessment the team will provide preliminary recommendations that can start saving on energy costs. We will provide a report detailing energy efficiency measures and available incentives to help the client choose their improvements and implementation. Once a decision on implementation has been made, we will also provide ongoing assistance. Typical recommendations include: efficient lighting, variable frequency drive, roof insulation, high efficiency HVAC, LED exit signs, commissioning, air sealing, and occupancy control.
SEDAC has provided assessments for over 1,000 facilities in the state of Illinois. Clients typically can expect an annual savings of between 10 to 49% on energy bills. On average the payback rate is three years or less after implementation of recommended measures.
Applications to the SEDAC program can be completed and submitted electronically through the SEDAC site.
